The Wife and I were very excited to arrive in the US and begin our summer vacation on the weekend of the Transformers 3 movie release. Plans were made in advance to see the spectacle on the biggest screen we could find as soon as we could (Saturday night arrival, Sunday evening showtime).
Fast forward a week later and we're headed to an annual Chisago Lakes celebration - Lindstrom's Karl Oskar Days. We snake our way through the parade detours to find my childhood parade route stakeout and settle in. The line-up is like any other small town: veterans, rescue vehicles from neighboring towns, candy throwing, buttermilk-fed pageant queens, politicians in convertibles, more candy... and, holy smokes, that's Sentinel Prime!!
Manufactured by a hometown safety equipment company, the Minnesota-made Rosenbauer Panther 3000 fire truck was recruited to appear on the big screen as the Transformers character Sentinel Prime. According to news reports Paramount Pictures scouted the rig online and rang up the Wyoming, MN folks to discuss the details - including upgrading paint from the FAA-required yellow to a flashy movie-magic red.
After the parade Avi had a chance to climb aboard the mammoth machine, stretching a big smile over her face as she giggled, "Who would have thought!?"
