Denisher, the Queen of the Commancheros & Associates mas band, parades across the stage during the King and Queen competition at Sunday night's Dimanche Gras...
During Dimanche Gras, each band that will be a part of Monday & Tuesday's parades submits a King and Queen, from which an overall winner is judged. The costumes are very large, complex, and colorful - often requiring an entire team of people to help the King and Queen get dressed.
After the Kings and Queens paraded in front of the judges, the Calypso Monarch competition began. The calypso songs performed at Dimanche Gras tend to be socio-political commentaries on the issues of the day (both local, regional, and international). There were just as many lyrics about Grenada's politics as there were about America's. :-)
I skipped out on most of the calypso in favor of a little extra sleep before J'ouvert morning...

Positively exuberant shot. Really beautifully done.
