Keeping the Pace

13 July 2009

Some people collect rare stamps...
Some people collect foreign coins...

Anatomists collect pacemakers.

During the course of dissection, it's not usual for faculty and students to discover pacemakers embedded in the donated cadavers. The anatomy faculty have amassed an unusual collection over the years and keep a display on hand for their students to view the assorted shapes and sizes.

Above: Behind a set of pacemakers mounted on plexiglass, Dr. Hage leads a heart/lung lab session. Oddly enough, one of these pacemakers beeps every night at 9pm.
